Our Extraction & Transformation Equipment Sizing Calculator is designed to simplify the planning process by helping you estimate the equipment required for grinding, shredding, pre-roll production, extraction preparation, and plant waste processing based on your material volume, processing time, and workflow requirements.

Calculate Your Extraction & Transformation Equipment Requirements

Every facility processes plant material differently depending on production volume, material condition, labour availability, equipment type, and final product goals.

By entering your total material volume, available processing time, and the equipment category you want to calculate, this tool helps estimate the equipment required for each stage of your workflow.

You can calculate one process at a time or select multiple equipment categories, including:

  • Grinder/Shredders
  • Pre-roll Machines
  • Extraction Machinery
  • Plant Waste Shredders

This makes it easier to plan a complete extraction and transformation setup instead of sizing each part of the process separately.

Why Equipment Sizing Matters

Proper equipment sizing helps improve production flow, reduce delays, and maintain consistent product quality. Having the right number and type of machines can help you:

  • Reduce processing bottlenecks
  • Improve material preparation consistency
  • Increase production speed
  • Better plan labour and production schedules
  • Avoid overloading one stage of the workflow
  • Improve space and equipment planning
  • Reduce manual handling
  • Support larger production volumes
  • Improve preparation for extraction, pre-roll production, or waste handling
  • Create a smoother and more efficient transformation process

If one stage of the workflow is undersized, it can slow down the entire process. For example, if grinding capacity is too low, prepared material may not be available fast enough for pre-roll production or extraction. If plant waste shredding capacity is too low, waste handling can become inefficient and create unnecessary delays.

Extraction & Transformation Equipment Sizing Calculation

To estimate equipment requirements, the calculator uses your total material volume, available processing time, and the estimated capacity of the selected equipment.

A basic calculation is:

Required processing rate = Total material volume ÷ Available processing time

Then:

Equipment required = Required processing rate ÷ Equipment capacity per hour

Because you cannot use a partial machine, the result should always be rounded up to the next full unit.

For example, if you need to process 500 lbs in 10 hours:

500 ÷ 10 = 50 lbs per hour

If the selected machine can process 25 lbs per hour:

50 ÷ 25 = 2

In this example, you would need 2 units to meet the required processing speed.

Grinder/Shredders, Pre-roll Machines, Extraction Machinery, and Plant Waste Shredders

This calculator can help estimate equipment needs for different extraction and transformation stages.

Grinder/Shredders are used to prepare plant material by reducing particle size and creating a more consistent material profile for downstream processes such as pre-roll production, extraction, or packaging. The required capacity depends on material type, moisture level, desired particle size, and machine model.

Pre-roll Machines help improve consistency and production speed when filling cones or producing pre-rolls. Capacity can vary depending on cone size, flower grind consistency, operator speed, filling method, and production workflow.

Extraction Machinery is used to process biomass or prepared material into extracts, oils, concentrates, or other finished products. Equipment requirements can vary depending on extraction method, batch size, throughput, solvent or solventless process, and production goals.

Plant Waste Shredders help reduce the volume of plant waste for easier handling, disposal, composting, or compliance-related destruction. The required capacity depends on waste volume, plant material type, moisture level, and facility workflow.

Recommended Equipment Cards

After calculating your requirements, the tool can display recommended equipment cards for each selected process.

Each card can show:

  • Recommended product
  • Recommended quantity
  • Capacity per unit
  • Total estimated capacity
  • Product image
  • Short product description
  • View Product button
  • Request a Quote button

For example, if your material volume requires two grinders, the result should clearly show:

Recommended Quantity: 2 Units

This helps customers understand that more than one unit of the same machine may be required to reach their processing target.

Important Factors to Consider

Several factors can affect your extraction and transformation equipment requirements, including:

  • Total material volume
  • Available processing time
  • Material type and condition
  • Wet or dry material
  • Flower, trim, biomass, or plant waste
  • Desired particle size
  • Equipment capacity per hour
  • Operator speed
  • Labour availability
  • Batch size and production frequency
  • Facility layout
  • Workflow between grinding, extraction, pre-roll production, packaging, and waste handling
  • Cleaning and maintenance time
  • Desired backup capacity

Actual equipment needs may vary depending on your material condition, processing method, equipment model, and production goals.

Estimate Your Complete Extraction & Transformation Workflow

Once you know your material volume and available processing time, this calculator can help estimate the number of machines needed for each stage of your extraction and transformation workflow.

This can help you determine:

  • How many grinder/shredders are required
  • How many pre-roll machines are required
  • What extraction capacity may be needed
  • How many plant waste shredders are required
  • Which stage may become a bottleneck
  • Whether additional equipment may be needed
  • How to better plan labour and production schedules

For best results, each stage should be sized to keep up with the previous stage and avoid unnecessary delays.

Important Note

This calculator provides an estimate only. Actual extraction and transformation equipment requirements may vary depending on material type, moisture level, particle size requirements, machine model, operator speed, facility layout, processing method, cleaning time, and production goals.

We recommend rounding up your equipment requirement to help avoid bottlenecks and maintain a smoother, more efficient extraction and transformation workflow.
